Gravity Break

This is a game I have been building in my spare time for 8 years, and full time for 1 year. Recently, I started to feel an urgency to release the game, because I think it has something important to say and do.

My name is Kristian Bak. I was a student of philosophy and digital design, graduating in 2013 from Aarhus University with a masters in the somaesthetic phenomenology of War Thunder. I had a student production nominated at the Unite 11 awards, reviewed games for 10 years for local television in my teens, made my first homepage with Flash animations and memes in 2000, started coding mods and simple scripts in 1996 and played my first video game in 1987.

I want to create a meme virus that will combat all the meme viruses of capitalism, advertisement and populism. I want to create a meme of diversity, hope and unity. I want us all to create a future together that we can believe in.

So I’ve been building a game about my worst fear, and what comes after.

Gravity Break is based on simulations of physics and economy. That’s very boring, so it’s also about cheese. And rockets. It’s a very fun game, to be honest.

The demo contains the basis of want I want to build, but it is far from done. I want to include the entire solar system, and the economics has to be fleshed out enormously. The controls are nice though. I have played with them for hundreds of hours myself, and still love it.

I have more characters I want to introduce. The dolphin of Venus, Klikklik, who wants you to prove you understand how to use gravity to make daring maneuvers.

The no-bullshit economic mastermind moon cow Arn, who doesn’t see the problem in making more cheese if people want cheese. Let’s just expand the economy and enjoy the fruits of our labour in peace!

And Captain Croissant, the insane space pirate who has manipulated Kong Käse of Mars to try and take over the remains of Earth and are kidnapping the population of cows, expelling the mice who fought so hard to create the technology that sustain their society.

But I need help to get there. I am working a full time job, on part time sick leave, and building the game in my spare time. It’s a luxury situation in many ways, but I’m stressed out and don’t have the time I need. So I would appreciate any help I can get.

The first thing is to play the game and tell your friends. Show it to others, help them understand and share it with others.

The next thing is to give me feedback. Tell me what you think, what should change, what you want to add. Go to Discord and hit me up!

If you really want to help, I take donations of art, time and money. I have a huge backlog of work that needs doing, and I’d love to see where it could go! The cheese started out as a small part of the game, and an intern added the 3D model – and now it’s everything.

I’m building a team, but I don’t really know how.
